When to choose Jinja Hotels

Book into Jinja Hotels when your business engagement is within the city of Jinja or you just want to take a long tour of the Source of the Nile River.

Otherwise, book into a Kampala Hotel and just take a weekend tour to Jinja.

Jinja is a Ugandan City located in the South East of the Country. Jinja Hotels are therefore about 87 kilometers North East of Kampala, Uganda's capital city.

Jinja is popular Uganda city because of its unique location on the shores of Lake Victoria and at the source of the White Nile river. The city is the chief town of Jinja District, and is considered the capital of the Basoga people, a tribe in Uganda.

The city of Jinja is the Original industrial Center for Uganda because of the establishment of the Owen falls Dam on Ripon Falls in 1954.

Major Tourist attractions in Jinja Include:

  • white-water rafting: the Source of the Nile at Bujagali Falls is a world-class spot for kayaking and white water rafting, and also a popular weekend picnic area for local Ugandans. However, the Falls are under threat from the construction of a proposed new 250 MW hydroelectric facility.
  • Boat Riding: with a private Sailing Club on the shores of Lake Victoria, you can take a boat ride and explore the Source of the Nile.
  • Bungee Jumping: Leap from one of the most spectacular sites in the world. Water touch the source of the Nile (it is the only jump over the Nile).
  • Wild animals: check out some animals at the Buwenge animal sanctuary.
  • Golf: a 9 hole (18 tee) golf course laid out in the mid 1920's.
  • Cultural Site: a small memorial garden for Mahatma Gandhi whose ashes were scattered into the source of the Nile River.
  • Birdwatching: Buvuma Island which is about 25 km south, in Lake Victoria. The forests on this island are favorites for daring birdwatchers.
