Wednesday, 24th August, 2011

The Uganda ICT sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) has tremendously increased from 2.5% to 5% in a space of six years.

"It (ICT sector) continues to lead in terms of government tax contribution derived from exercise tax, VAT, corporate tax, PAYE and import tax. Also, it has become one of the leading sources of employment in the country.

By December 2010, it employed 14,000 persons," Ruhakana Rugunda, the ICT minister, said at the annual sector review workshop in Kampala.
