Taxes and Duties on Used Clothing and Shoes donated to Orphans in Uganda

Tax Question
Are there any taxes and duties on shipments of used clothing and used shoes, beans and seeds levied by the Ugandan government upon import? If so is there any way to apply for tax exemptions?

Answer

Thank you Dave for this question; under the Uganda income tax act, VAT act and East African Management Act, used clothes and used shoes are not exempted hence you have to pay taxes for them while beans and seed are zero rated supplies provided they are not processed.
