Registration Procedures for a Clothing Shop in Kampala Uganda

Question:

What registration procedures are required to open a small business in Kampala, e.g clothing shop, about 5 employees.

Answer:
Before you even start the clothing shop you need to have some idea of your target market and where you're going to buy your clothes in Bulk for reselling.

You need to decide whether you'll be buying your items in Uganda or importing from China, UK or USA.

You also need to decide whether you will work with a specif franchise/label/designer or sale all types of clothes irrespective of the designer.

You will also have to decide where you want to mainly deal in Used Clothes or New Clothes.

Another important decision you will need to make is whether you will sell in bulk or retail.

Much of the above business planning decisions will depend on how much capital you intend to invest in Uganda.

Next, Incorporate your company/This is an optional step as many Traders/vendors don't own companies,
but for shop employing 5 workers you would most likely need to operate under a well registered company.

Then find a good location, preferably on a new shopping arcade building in Kampala or any other town in Uganda.

Apply for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) trading License.

You may not need an investment licence.
