UGP Traders (U) Limited aims to tackle food security and high unemployment rates in Uganda while catering to the growing global demand for natural ingredients.

Moreover, we provide the nomadic communities in Karamoja an alternative source of livelihood, contributing to security in the region.

Vanilla Value Chain 

Sesame Value Chain

Through farming of Organic Sesame Seeds, we supply to the world's need for healthy, nutritious, and natural food options.

Our activities provide employment and sustainable economic development within Uganda; a country with the youngest population in the world yet 40% of Ugandan youths are out of school and not employed. 

We work with more than 80 temporary workers, mostly youth and also purchase Sesame Seeds from more than 2000 smallholder farmers to reach desired export targets.

Soybean Value Chain

We produce Soybeans, Soybean Cake and Soybean Oil.

These products address malnutrition by offering an affordable, nutrient-rich food option.  Nearly 3 in 10 children in Uganda suffer from undernutrition.

Soybean oil is low in saturated fats and is a natural source of beneficial omega-3 fats, making it a heart-healthy choice for consumers. Additionally, local production of soybean oil supports Uganda's drive for food self-sufficiency, reducing reliance on imported oils. 

Our Soybean Cake is an effective, local and cost-effective animal feed, hence reducing reliance on imported animal feeds.  Animal Feeds approximate about 70% of local farm production costs.

Vanilla Beans: global vanilla market was valued at around $510 million in 2018, and it is expected to reach $735 million by the end of 2026

Sesame Seeds: global sesame seeds market was valued at around $17.77 billion in 2019.

Soybean Meal: Global soybean meal market was valued at approximately $73.67 billion in 2020. However, the data for Uganda is not available.

Soybean Oil:  The size of the global edible oil market is estimated at $91.8 billion in 2020 and it's expected to reach $130.3 billion by 2027.

The East African regional edible oils import market is estimated at USD1 billion.

1.  UGP Traders (U) Limited is registered with the USFDA and also has a UFI (Unique Facility Identifier) to Export Uganda Vanilla Beans to USA.

2.  We’re also registered with South Korean Food and Drug Authority (KFDA) to Export Uganda Vanilla Beans to South Korea.

3.  We’re registered with China Single Window, General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) to export Sesame Seed

4.  Our Soybean Oil has been certified by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) so we’re able to distribute freely in the Uganda local market.

Business Model

1.       Production: UGP produces premium quality Vanilla Beans, Sesame Seeds, and Soybeans grown in our own gardens. We utilize sustainable farming methods and employ advanced agricultural practices to ensure the production of high-quality crops that meet international export standards.

2.       Partnership with Smallholder Farmers: In addition to cultivating our own crops, we work in close partnership with smallholder farmers whom we provide with training, resources, and reliable access to markets. We buy their produce of Vanilla Beans, Sesame Seeds, and Soybeans, promoting local agricultural growth and supporting the prosperity of these rural communities.

3.       Processing: The Soybeans we cultivate and purchase from local farmers are processed into Soybean Oil and Soybean Meal at our Oil press in Nsangi. Our efficient manufacturing practices ensure the high quality and nutritional value of these products. The Vanilla Beans we grow and also purchase from farmers we cure at our own facility in Nsangi. The sesame seeds we produce and also purchase from local farmers we clean with our own machinery.

4.       Distribution and Sales: Our business model is based on both the local market and international exports. Our locally manufactured Soybean Oil and Soybean Meal are sold in Uganda, meeting the country's demand for quality edible oil and animal feed.

On the international front, we export our premium Vanilla Beans to the USA, a market with a high demand for authentic, natural vanilla. Our Sesame Seeds are exported to China, where the demand for these nutrient-rich seeds is strong.

5.       Revenue Model: Our revenue streams come from both local sales and international export. We ensure our sustainability and growth by maintaining a diverse market reach, from local Ugandan markets to large international markets in the USA and China.
