The small-and-medium size enterprises (SMEs) draft policy is ready, but awaits Cabinet?s consideration, stakeholders were told last week.
The drafting of the policy that started in 2005 was spearheaded by the finance ministry and Enterprise Uganda. It aims at guiding the SME sector activities, the country?s dominant economic force.
Maria Kiwanuka, the finance minister, said despite the policy delays, more efforts would be made to expedite the process at Cabinet level.
?The process has been rather slow to finalise this important policy, but I will make sure Cabinet speeds it up,? Kiwanuka said told a consultative meeting.
?If we had this policy, it would be easy for us to get recognised because over 70% of our activities are driven by SMEs,? said Sowedi Mohammed, the head of the Uganda Network of Business, an association.
