Before you buy the Audi Q7 in Uganda

by Edwin

The Audi Q7 is a full-size luxury crossover SUV of the German manufacturer Audi, unveiled in September 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Production of the Q7 began in autumn of 2005 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is the first SUV offering from Audi and went on sale in 2006. Later, Audi's second SUV, the Q5, was unveiled as a 2009 model. Audi has since unveiled a third SUV model, the Q3, which went on sale in the 3rd quarter of 2011. The Q7 shares its platform and chassis with the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne.

Before you buy the Audi Q7 in Uganda

The first generation Audi Q7 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2005, as a direct answer to road-biased SUVs like the popular Volvo XC90 and the BMW X5. It's proved to be a major success story for Audi - so successful in fact that's it's since spawned smaller variants in the form of the Audi Q5 and Q3.

In Uganda, the people are gaining interest in the great SUVs like the Q7. Its not common on the streets but its surely there especially amongst the high paid business and corporate people in Uganda.

Buying Audi Q7 from a local car bond in Uganda

Buying a foreign used car from a car bond makes life a lot easier to acquire yourself a vehicle. There is basically no need to go to Japan or order for the vehicle from Japan or any other part of the world. In short one just walks to the car bond and arrange for a purchase and within a short time, the car is paid for and handled over to you as the owner.

However, you can also find that some cars have only the Audi Q7 cleared the cost, insurance and freight (CIF) fees only. So it would mean that if you want the Audi Q7 then you will have to clear the rest of the taxes. You can find the CIF of the Audi Q7 (that’s up Kampala from Japan) to be around $ 3,000 or more.

However, the cost of the CIF can change due to year of manufacture, condition of the car, mileage and the dealer. Now the Audi Q7 is more expensive as compared to most the cars we have discussed. In general, the Audi Q7 can cost you around UGX 60,000,000 or more. This is partly the reason as to why its not a common SUV on the streets of Kampala.

Importing a foreign used Audi Q7 from Japan

Now this is different from buying from car from the car bond here in Kampala. Some people prefer to import their own cars directly from Japan or from any other part of the world. However cars like the Audi Q7 are more predominant in Europe than in Asia. Most people car importers actually get them from Britain, Italy and Germany.

This means all the costs are going to be met by the owner of the car right from say Japan to Mombasa up to Uganda. Here one needs to determine the cost of the car while still in Japan from which the Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) are calculated.

After that, arrangements are made to ship the car to Kampala, Uganda. After arriving in Kampala, then the required taxes have to be cleared.

The taxes charged by the Uganda Revenue Authority include Import Duty, Value added (VAT), Withholding Tax, Environmental Levy, Infrastructure Levy, and Registration Fees. When all this is done, then you are free to drive home in your Audi Q7.

General Audi Q7 reviews

It’s clear that Audi is targeting the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport with the new Q7 because the driving experience is all about luxury.

Impressively efficient diesel engines and strong residual value predictions mean the Q7 makes sound financial sense for SUV buyers.

The Q7 showcases a whole new design direction for Audi’s ‘Q’ family of SUVs, so expect future replacements for the Q5 and Q3, as well as the new Q1, to follow along similar lines.

There’s a spacious, airy feel inside, with more leg and headroom than before in every one of the seven seats. The premium feel is enhanced by comfortable front seats with a full range of electric movement, high-quality materials throughout the cabin and luxury options like soft-close doors.

Even though it’s shorter, narrower and no taller than the old Q7, the new car actually offers more head and legroom in all three rows – achieved through clever packaging and thinner seats – and the seven-seat layout is fully configurable to allow owners to get the most out of it.

Availability of the Audi Q7 spare parts in Uganda

The Audi Q7 spares are not readily available in Uganda especially when you get to the latest models. One may have to order for spare parts from Europe to be shipped to Uganda. This partly emphasizes the point about the fact that few Ugandan may actually buy the Q7. Secondly, the spares are too costly. So whoever opts for a Q7 should have a big disposable income to spend on it.

Final verdict

Audi is famed for the quality and reliability of its components, and the Q7 should live up to this. The engine and gearbox are developments of existing technology, so are proven in the real world, while the interior feels solid enough to stand up to the knocks and scrapes of family life.

All in all, the Q7 has its place reserved in the best SUVs not only in Uganda but all over the world. It’s worth a to give a shot in case your are yet to decide..
